Retired but not tired

Rev. Felix Teghen, aged 79, is a retired pastor of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) and a native of Njindom village in Momo Division of the North West Region, Cameroon. He is an active member of the Wumnembug Older People’s group. A couple of years ago, through the support of All We Can and DFID, UK, CDVTA trained members of this older people’s group on bee farming and assisted them with bee hives. However, Felix was not yet there by then.

When he later on joined the group upon return home after retirement, he decided to engage in bee farming. He currently a bee farm of 8 hives planted around his home and they are producing well. Through CDVTA, knowledge on these productive practices is being propagated and these elderly can still find a way to improve on their livelihoods and productivity even in old age.

While hoping for more support to acquire more smokers and bee suits, the elderly groups are doing their best to sustain their practices. Indeed, they may be retired, but they are not tired. This is active ageing!
